things kids say
ethan is at a super-fun age. a little over three months away from turning three (gasp!), he is soaking up information, phrases, and silliness beyond belief. his imagination is soaring, right before my eyes. he was born to play and lives with that mission at his core. he pretends to read, acts out stories, brings inanimate objects to life, and never ceases to keep life full and fun!
a few weeks ago, he was playing with my phone in the car and he sneezed. awesome, right? he quickly says "God bless you", as he always does after someone sneezes. then he tells me, "I got god bless you on momma's phone". I slightly cringed and asked is he needed a tissue. he waited a long minute, then said, "it's ok. bless you all gone."
ethan is learning what the stoplights means. he says, "red light! stop, mommy!" I ask him what the green light means and he exclaims, "go!". "what does the yellow light mean?". "CALM DOWN", he says. ha.
ethan has finally started saying "I love you". I mean, i'm sure he could say it before, but it is more sincere now. only he thinks that only he can love me and doesn't understand that we can all love each other at the same time. strange the things toddlers don't get.
ethan enjoys watching veggie tales. I mean, who doesn't love these talking/singing, witty vegetables (and fruit). I hear him around the house saying, "God made you special. and he loves you very much! bye!". he also entertains himself with two baby carrots who sing, talk, fly, you-name-it, all around the house. baby carrots. the best $.02 we ever spent on entertainment.
the phrases little ones learn from their parents are hilarious. I have heard ethan say "calm down" to levi on several occasions (maybe he saw a yellow light), "that was close!" at least once, and "I fink that's a good idea" pretty regularly. one of my favorites is, "oh, dats cooool!" (I wish I could add an audio recording of this one, as he holds out the "oo" in cool!)
ethan's new game to play is acting out bible stories. some of his favorites include Jonah and the big fish, Daniel and the lion's den, david and goliath, etc. he has also been known to begin acting out a bible story as soon as we finish reading it before bed (i.e. jesus feeding the 5,000 with loaves and fishes). I love it! it is amazing to see his little imagination at work! david and goliath probably gets the most airtime, and he has learned to play multiple characters when mommy and daddy can't join in. he'll say (in a really deep voice), "who will fight me? ha, ha, ha!" and then in a tiny squeaky voice, say, "I will fight you!". before you know it, you hear "ping!" and down falls goliath (his favorite part of the scene, no doubt). love it.
I know there are many more "ethan-isms". he is quite the verbal two-year-old! we have real conversations and i'm constantly amazed at his capacity to understand concepts and when he doesn't, his interest in wanting to understand. right now, we are working on the concept that mommy and daddy are married. I think he is confused because this idea of marriage was first introduced around Christmastime, in the context of Mary and Joseph. mary. married. yeah, I would be confused too!
love this boy! two isn't always easy, but it sure is fun!
