granola bars made easy
i don't know about your family, but we eat a lot of granola bars around here. they are a great snack to have accessible in the diaper bag or in the car and are a nice filler item for my husband's lunch. my toddler loves granola bars and i end up eating them a good bit, too!
i found this recipe for 5-ingredient granola bars! how great to make your own granola bars in less then 30 minutes, to know everything that is in them, and to have them on hand as a snack for the entire family!?!
oats, peanut butter, honey, peanuts, and sunflower kernels. that's it and that's all. i will probably experiement with dried fruit next, but for now i like keeping them low in sugar and simple.
FIVE ingredient granola bars:
4 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup chopped peanuts
1/2 cup sunflower kernels
3/4 cup natural peanut butter, melted
mix oats, peanuts, and sunflower kernels in large mixing bowl. add honey to dry ingredients. pour in melted peanut butter and mix entire mixture thoroughly. use your hands, if necessary. then press the mixture into a greased 9x13 baking dish. i used greased wax paper to press firmly into dish, so that the bars would be compact. bake for 20 minutes in a 325-degree oven. (a small variation from the original recipe i used). i cut the bars into 10-12 rectangles. i then placed each into its own snack-sized plastic bag, to allow for quick and easy access when packing up the car or making lunches.
clearly, you can add all kinds of ingredients to this basic recipe. i love recipes that allow variation to suit your own tastes and preferences! enjoy this yummy and good-for-you treat!

i wrapped them up in snack-size plastic bags, and put them in a container in the pantry, so they are an easy-to-grab snack or lunch item. who says convenient can't be healthy? |
