keeper of the home
someone asked me the other day if i get bored at home. if i would have been eating something at the time they asked this question, i would have choked! bored? ha! hardly.
while i feel like our days are transitioning into our version of normal and quiet, there is never a dull moment. there's always some sort of activity, even if it is coloring at the table or playing with toys in the living room. our days are full, that's for sure!
i love being home with my boys. it truly thrills me to be the "keeper of our home" and to manage the comings and goings of our everyday routine, meals, and activities. (not that i've perfected it, but it is something i really enjoy). for me, this is an answer to prayer, as i began praying early on in my first pregnancy that God would turn my heart towards home. i had a job that i really liked, working in a profession that i love. i didn't want to go from one to the other and feel torn between the two. while i still love the PA profession, i realize it is something i can enjoy down the road, but these kiddos will only be little for so long and i don't want to miss a thing!
i see all kinds of moms being great moms in all kinds of ways. i love that this God-given role is one that we each, as women, can embrace with our own specific and unique gifts and abilities. some may be more organized, others are way more creative, some are more laid-back, others are full of energy and ideas. some work outside the home, others run businesses from their home. some have little ones, some have kids all grown up and out the door. they are all great moms to their kids and are exactly what their kids need. we all are learning, growing, and changing as we relate to these little quivers and take care of their needs.
i am especially thankful for the example that these moms are to me as a mom to my boys. sometimes it is in conversations, or reading blogposts, or simply watching the interaction between them and their kids. i have decided that taking care of children is easy (hear me out on this one); meeting their physical demands on a daily basis is tiring, no doubt, but very doable. it's the day-in, day-out training, instructing, teaching, loving, giving grace, modeling patience, using each moment as an opportunity to love and learn--parenting is not for wimps!
so, press on, mamas. i hope you are encouraged all the more to do what only you can do as a mommy to your children. thank you for the example that you are, to me and to many others as you work as unto the Lord and not unto men in this valuable and irreplaceable role.
