replacing lies with Truth

Lies Women Believe by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. best book i've read recently. ok, only book i've read recently. i've been a bit busy.

have you read it?

it might just change your life. or, at the very least, change one single aspect of your life. you might be like me when you start reading it and think, "oh, i don't believe any of these lies" (watch what you say/think). and you might be like me when you start reading it and pray that God would use His Words through this book to show me areas of my life where i am believing lies and change me. whoa. big prayer.

i wanted to prayerfully approach the reading of this book and not just let it be another Christian book that i just read and then put down without a thought. i wanted to grow. what better way to be changed than to read absolute Truth in the Word of God that specifically counters the lies of Satan, the world, and even well-meaning church people around us?

God answered my prayer and revealed the ways that i have and am believing lies. lies concerning God, priorities, children, marriage, sin, etc. they're out there. and they are popular. and sometimes they are what we want to hear. but they aren't Truth. and Truth is essential. it has made me all the more vigilant about combatting these lies with the Truth of the Word. not all the time. i still wallow in the lies, choosing to believe them when i know that God's Truth is greater. exchanging Truth for lies is a choice. one that the Holy Spirit enables me to make with His power and His victory through the cross of Jesus Christ.

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'." John 14:6

i don't think there is a single person on this planet who does not in some way, shape, or form believe lies. the bad news with that is that believing lies affects the way we live. am i living in a way that shows i am believing Truth (as i claim to, as a follower of Christ)?

read the Bible. it is Truth. and, if you can, i would recommend reading this book, too. it is a great application of that Truth in particular areas of our lives today.

linking up with rachel today for Friday's favorite things...because it's Friday (hooray!), because books are a favorite thing-- especially books that grow me, challenge me, and help me to become more like Jesus-- and because i haven't linked up in a while...

  1. Hi! Visiting from Friday Favorite Things! Hope your reading goes well. It looks like a good book. I have heard of it, but haven't read it personally. I really resonate with your prayerful approach to reading the book. I have had that same conviction and desire to not just read another book that's good and inspirational, but for it to really be meaningful and used by the Lord in my life. God has answered my prayers big time this summer as I've ready two books and am doing a small Bible study, all of which I've been lifting up to Him! It's been awesome!
