Why I owe target $.69
Last week, to get out of the house a bit, I loaded up my boys and we drove to target. It's always a nice outing-- my oldest enjoys his icee treat while we meander through the aisles leisurely, with maybe a few items to actually shop for. This particular day, while choosing some candy for the house, I decided I would get a Cadbury egg for my husband. He loves them. He never buys them for himself, so I thought it would be a nice welcome home treat, as he had been gone on a trip all week. With a busy baby in the front of the cart, and a toddler taking up the back of the cart, I decided to place the chocolate egg temporarily in my hoodie pocket, so it didn't get smashed, ruined, or eaten. We got to the checkout line and I quickly became busy paying for our items and preparing the boys for our departure. We headed out and I got them loaded up in the car. I reached in my pocket for the car keys when I realized. Uh-oh. The chocolate egg was still in my pocket.
I stole a Cadbury egg from target.
In this moment, I knew I needed to pay for the egg. I also knew there was no way in this world I was going to unbuckle and unload two tired and hungry boys for an egg. I decided that my next trip to target would include paying for another Cadbury egg, only I wouldn't take this one home with me.
It was a funny moment. I knew I could rectify the situation, even if not the same day. I was excited to tell my husband that I love him so much, I was willing to steal for him.
Not to worry-- I'll be heading back to target soon, to remedy the situation and put my guilty conscience at ease.
Addendum: I confessed my thievery to the Target cashier today and she told me not to worry about it. she didn't have the code, I didn't have an egg, so my offense was forgiven and forgotten.
