kindness
kindness is the theme word around here these days. i have been really working on incorporating it into conversations with Ethan, my (now) two-year-old. we talk about being kind to his brother, kind to friends, kind to people who are hurting or who need help. we talk about how kind means to take care of someone, to be loving and gentle.
the dictionary defines kind as affectionate, loving, of a sympathetic or helpful nature, gentle.
we talk about it because Jesus is the greatest example of kindness.
we talk about it because this mommy needs to hear it.
"They (older women) are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled." titus 2:3-5
we talk about it because it is a fruit, a product, of the Holy Spirit inside of us.
as Christ-followers, we are to be like Jesus in this world and in doing so, live out the gospel to those around us (2 corinthians 5:20). as daunting a task as that sounds, God gives us His own Holy Spirit to empower us to carry it out. it's a win-win.
so, kindness? such a nice word but with such depth. simple enough for a two-year-old to begin to understand but with power to point us (and others) to the cross of Jesus Christ.

"Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?" romans 2:4
"...so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." ephesians 2:7
"But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy,..." titus 3:4-5

I found you on Carissa's sidebar and what a lovely blog you have and what a lovely entry. We can never be too kind and the sooner our world realizes this, the better off we will all be. Hats off to you for teaching this truth to your son at such a tender age. Blessings to you!
