new beginnings

hello, 2013. you came all too quickly, as the years tend to do as my age advances.

I love the start of a new year, the beginning of a new week, the rise of a new day. there is something hopeful, exciting about beginning. a fresh start, a clean slate are full of possibilities and promise. inevitably, though, merely seconds into the "new" leads to messing up, imperfections, and frustrations as my hopes for "getting it right" are dashed.

hello, human.

God doesn't just make us better versions of ourselves; He makes us new creations. ~mark driscoll

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. the old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17

the good news: in Christ, there is new beginning. not just once, but always.

"but the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him..." Psalm 103:17

each moment, day, and year, His mercies are new. His grace is all-sufficient. His love is steadfast.

as a parent, this is incomprehensible. but it is oh so glorious! to me, to my children, to the entire world, God is "merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love." Psalm 103:8

what a way to begin a new year. to you, I wish a wonderful 2013, full of glimpses of the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ!
