the perfect day
my breakfast date was showing up promptly at 7am. i couldn't be late, nor did i want to be. this breakfast date was someone special. someone, who, in the four-and-a-half months of dating, had become a man who i respected greatly, took my breath away, and was my perfect match in every way.
the doorbell rings. there he is. i try to act cool, not wanting to give away that there were butterflies in my stomach, trying not to talk too much in case i just start laughing ridiculously out of nervousness. breakfast. no big deal, right? not today.
on our way, he suggests that we go for a walk first on this brisk november morning. he mentions something about breakfast places not being open yet, anyway. i knew he was on to something.
we walk leisurely, hand in hand, both surprisingly quiet, just taking in the moment. not much traffic at pitt street bridge. yes, it was a perfect morning indeed. as our morning walk continues, we come upon a fully prepared breakfast table, thoroughly detailed with tablecloth, flowers, dishware, napkins, food. he acts surprised, as if the table appeared completely out of thin air. it might as well have, it was that perfect. he seats me and sits across from me, as we both enjoy this moment, that would soon change everything.
on my plate is a red envelope with my name on it. i recognize the handwriting, but fight the urge to tear the letter open and begin reading out of excitement. he encourages me to go ahead. i take my time, enjoying that still moment, and begin reading a beautiful love letter from this man whom i love.
by the end of the letter, there he is, on one knee beside me, asking me to be his bride. forever. i think something like, "yes, yes, yes!" comes out of my mouth as i throw my arms around this man who will now be my husband.
i never knew what love would be like. i dated, but never felt that feeling of wanting to spend forever with someone. until i met my husband. it was almost instantaneous. as if i knew my life would never be the same, not even knowing his last name at that first introduction. but, as soon as he and i became a "we", it was like i couldn't imagine life without him.

i am blessed beyond words to be mrs. brian thomasson. i could not have picked a better person to be married to, or a more perfect man for me. i love our memories of that perfect day. and every day since.
