don't tell me this isn't fudge

i grew up with my Granny's fudge. it was something to look forward to at almost every visit to her house. my mom makes this fudge too, mostly at Christmastime. it's perfect. simple to make, easy to share, and delicious to indulge.

if you look closely, you might say, "that's not fudge, it's a no-bake cookie!". that is partially true. this recipe requires no baking. but don't tell me it isn't fudge. cause it is. and it's wonderful. i know there is richer, creamier, more delectable fudge out there, but that isn't what i grew up with. this is tradition to me, this is memories to me, and this is fudge.

if you don't have the fabulous recipe, here it is:

1/2 cup cocoa

2 sticks butter

4 cups sugar

1 cup milk

mix these ingredients over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally. if you have a candy thermometer (and i completely recommend it!), heat the mixture to about 240 degrees F. then remove from heat and add:

1 tsp vanilla

1 cup peanut butter (crunchy makes the best)

4 cups rolled oats

mix well, spread onto a jelly roll pan, and allow to cool. cut into squares and enjoy!

  1. My husband still says they are no bake cookies! It's so annoying. However, I have had what he refers to as no bake cookies (made by his family) and it is NOT the same. The consistency is different, the pan method, rather than drop method, is thicker--thus BETTER!! Plus, as you said, it's full of tradition and memories. Love it!!
