friday's favorite things...

...about charleston.

as i am saddened by the realization that my time in charleston is dwindling, i want to dedicate this favorite things post to my hometown. here's to you, charleston!

1. the weather. i love, love, love that i can wear flip-flops for 9 months out of the year! i love that hurricanes are the biggest weather advisory to be concerned about and that snow flurries keep the kids home from school and the grocery stores bare! i love that i don't wear a real winter coat and that long johns are only for trips to the mountains! yes, the summers are hot, but by the time october comes, you've forgotten the hot days of summer and are itching for them again come february!

2. the scenery. we've got the beautiful ocean, historical downtown, the stunning Ravenel bridge, quaint and quirky old homes, the marsh, the picturesque battery...and due to our hurricane advisories, no tall buildings to get in the way! my absolute favorite view of charleston is driving on the james island connector from james island...the gorgeous battery on the right and the marshland on the left; it just makes me smile!

3. the beach. did i mention we have the beach?

4. the people. this goes without saying, but i'm saying it anyway. charleston is home, so family is here, friends are here, our church, good neighbors, etc...you will all be missed so very much! the best part about charleston being home, though, is that there is always an excuse to come back!

5. the familiarity. one of the things i will miss about charleston is how everything is familiar to me. there's not a single part of charleston where i don't have at least one memory. seriously, every. single. part. (sorry, Laura!). memories from childhood, memories from living on my own while in grad school, memories from dating my husband, memories from our family,....i do love navigating a new place, learning my way around, and it will be fun to do that at the next address, but there's something sweet about walking down memory lane!

6. the size. large enough to not know everyone, but small enough to feel at home. it's just right.

so many more things to add to the list of favorite things about charleston...what's your favorite thing about charleston?
