our ER visit

i have a little boy.

who likes to climb.

he's part monkey, i'm convinced. his first word was banana.

about a month ago, we took a family walk to the playground. not uncommon, we do this any chance we get. we adults get our exercise and the littles get their energy out. perfect.

this particular night, we were at the playground for over an hour. the boys were doing great and it was a nice outing for us all after having our third baby about a month prior. I was chatting with a mom of another newborn when I see my husband holding Levi. brian looked concerned and said that we needed to go. I thought maybe it was just a meltdown for levi, as it was definitely dinnertime. as I walked closer, I saw blood on my husband's hand, coming from the back of levi's head. my heart skipped a beat and I saw a laceration on the back of his head. about an inch long. levi had been climbing on the picnic tables by the playground and fell off the seat of one of the tables, straight back on his head. he didn't lose consciousness and, after crying an appropriate amount of time, was acting fine. still, we decided to take him to the ER. my husband bolted for our house while me and the three littles booked it home with the stroller. he picked us up and we were on our way.

after a l.o.n.g. almost three hours in the emergency room, my tired and very hungry toddler was able to go home, with some new bling on the back of his head-- three staples. he was a champ. he couldn't eat the entire time, in case of sedation. if you know my son (any of my kids. shoot, anyone in our family, myself included), you know this is a big deal. especially when the little high school volunteer girl comes and offers snacks to my three-year-old. thankfully, ER's have cable so we all tried to stay as distracted as possible with Cinderella. although my kids really don't get commercials. they can't understand why the movie stops. ha.

levi's head healed beautifully. he was such a sweetie to endure such an ordeal. and, do you think this traumatic experience led to a greater caution with climbing? not a chance. he was back to climbing on everything allowed the very next morning.

the little patient.

ugh. cool when you're the medical provider. not cool when you're the mom.

finding something to watch to pass the time
a bandage to hold the numbing medication on the cut. does this look pitiful or what?

one-two-three.

I removed the staples a week later. oh, the joys of being a mom/PA!
