late pregnancy
39 weeks and counting! Evelyn Claire will be here before we know it.
some random pregnancy thoughts...
with each pregnancy, i'm not one to get a ton of comments. just the usual, but nothing too strange. this pregnancy, however, the number one question I keep getting once a person gets the facts-- third pregnancy, it's a girl and I have two boys, etc.-- is "and you're done, right?". I've not been asked this once or twice, but numerous times by strangers at the gym, the grocery, the playground. I find it extremely interesting that so many people view having kids as a box to check in life: got my boy, got my girl, done. or that we kept having kids "til we got our girl". or that having more than two or three kids automatically puts you in the "Dugger" category. while i'm not committing to the idea that we aren't done (we can take it one at a time), I politely tell them that my husband and I would like a larger family and this may or may not mean we birth them all, but we aren't ready to say "we're done". which, automatically puts us in the "weirdo" category. that's ok with me. probably not the first time and certainly won't be the last.
so, I totally had myself convinced a few nights ago that I was going into labor. minus my water breaking or regular contractions, mind you. it was a gazillion degrees in our house, so I was having trouble sleeping and so I kept thinking that labor was imminent. I was going through the checklist of last minute things to grab, who to call to watch the boys, whether or not I should take a shower. you know, the important things. I finally fell asleep. and didn't go into labor.
most people know that pregnancy induces strange dreams. they haven't been too bizarre, but I did dream that we had a 6lb baby at full term. this is mainly funny because my second baby was almost 11lbs! my midwife has been tracking our baby girl's growth all along to see if we will be in the Guinness book of world records (rest assured, I don't think we will be), so having a tiny baby would definitely be a surprise!
I am so excited to meet our little girl, to transition to a family of five, to see our boys as big brothers, and to hold and care for this precious life! I am getting close to ready to pack up these maternity clothes (hopefully sooner rather than later) and not have to exercise with a big baby belly. I think i'm ready to spend four to six hours a day nursing an infant, all while managing two busy boys at play. i'm excited to dress Evelyn up in these adorable girl clothes and accessories. I am so curious what she will look like and what her personality will be. so amazing, a new life.
