is it monday again miscellaneousness

seriously. this past week absolutely flew by. probably in part because my husband had a few post-mission crew rest days (aka, didn't have to go in to work). and in part because life is just like that these days, you know?

1. gorgeous backdrops

welcome to the world of amazing. i love the mountains. the mountains take me back to the days of family vacations growing up, cozyness, and comfort. hiking in the woods, feeling alive, breathing in fresh air, and (usually) away from the normal hustle and bustle of life. aahhh. our family took a little day trip to enjoy the almost unbelievable scenery known as Olympic National Park. we hardly scratched the surface of this amazing park, but the day was well-spent, as we drove and hiked and enjoyed every single second. almost every time i look out at the mountain(s) here, i think that it looks like a backdrop you would find at a photography business-- you know, that's painted on some sort of canvas and pulled down so that your adorable and preferably matching kids can sit in front and appear to be at the picturesque location? only these backdrops are the real deal.

2. for those of us who eat too many cookies...

can i get an amen? well, a friend's blog post really hit home for me this week. and not only because i eat too many cookies. this post reminded me of a story our pastor at home would tell. i'm far from polished when it comes to Greek mythology, but the story goes that Jason, a mythological hero who was the leader of the Argonauts, on his journey home (from who-knows-where) had to pass the island of the Sirens. these Sirens lived on small, rocky islands and would sing beautiful songs, enticing the passers-by to come to them, usually resulting in the crashing of the sailors' ships into the islands. Orpheus, a legendary musician, when sailing past the islands and hearing these bewitching songs, pulled out his lyre and sang songs that were louder and more beautiful than the songs of the Sirens, drowning out the Siren's attempt to seal their fate. it's a glorious picture of the beauty of Christ, in our hearts and in our lives, drowing out the "songs of the Sirens" around us.

3. chocolate. orange. bliss.

speaking of cookies. oh my goodness. our family went to a local farmer's market this week with some good friends. i packed a super-healthy dinner of salad and fruit for us, so it was only right to indulge in some tasty market treats. kettle corn and some chocolate chocolate-chip cookies were our treats of choice. but not just any chocolate-chip cookies. these were chocolate chocolate-chip orange cookies. it may have been the best cookie i've ever eaten. and that is saying a heck of a lot. i knew, especially by my husband's reaction, that i needed to re-create this little piece of heaven. and so re-create i did! if you even kind of sort of like a chocolate and orange combo, these cookies are for you! recipe to come...

deliciousness in the making

4. seven months of pure chunk

our little Levi is seven months old! this month has been one of numerous changes for him, as he is becoming more and more mobile, and has grown a tooth! his appetite is nearly insatiable these days, and his smile is still one of my favorite moments each day (and since he smiles a lot, i get a lot of happy moments throughout the day!). oh, i so love this sweet boy!

happy and handsome. a winning combo.

5. attitude of gratitude

speaking of sweet boys, our toddler is into saying "tank you, mommy/daddy" for just about everything these days. it is such a wonderful thing to hear, an unprompted word of thankfulness from my precious boy. i pray and hope that his heart will continue to be full of thankfulness and that we can continue to model this attitude of gratitude to him. all that we have is a gift from our loving, faithful, and good Father in heaven. beautiful creation, salvation and the hope of heaven, the very Word of God at our fingertips, grace that sustains our every day-- all these are wonderful gifts. thank you, Jesus. may our hearts be ever grateful for the good gifts you bless us with daily-- gifts for Your glory and our good.

a happy (and thankful) toddler-- i'll take it!

happy monday to you.

a little bit of happy in my yard
