another month comes to a close miscellany monday

happy monday!

we have a strange mixture of not-a-lot-going-on and busy-busy-busy these days! august was full of family visits, new classes at the local Y for ethan, enjoying the outdoors as much as possible, and just hanging out taking care of two littles! that last one is enough to keep anyone on-the-go! through all the full and not-so-full days, i just haven't felt much like blogging-- not for lack of thoughts and ideas, just content living life instead of blogging about it, i suppose! i'm slowly but surely getting back on it, so thanks for your patience and happy reading!

{family visit} my parents were in town for the past week-and-a-half! it was SO wonderful having them here and showing off our new home to them! we balanced the visit with lots of site-seeing and some just hanging out time, too! ethan had so much fun with all the extra attention and much-needed time with his grandparents! levi had a great time, too-- all smiles, as usual!

{we have a boy on our hands, folks} of course, we have two boys on our hands but it has only been recently that some new boy "phases" have begun...my ethan has discovered Toy Story-- he now flies his Little People astronaut around the house, exclaiming " ini (infinity) and beyond!" over and over! he now owns a Lightning McQueen car and has it in his possession pretty much all the time. finally, "baseball game" is something he speaks of often-- while my parents were here, we saw the Mariners play and ethan's life is forever changed. ok, maybe a little exaggeration, but he is all about it now! it is so funny how these little boy things become a part of everyday play so subtly. i knew the day would come when "movie stars" would become my little boy's heroes. we'll try to keep it under control.

{vacation mode} with my husband on a work trip and family in town for a week and a half, we're kind of in vacation mode around here. meaning, i'm so not getting the house in order; i've eaten pizza for three of my last four meals; we've watched Toy Story agazillion times in the last week; and i might have had my pajamas on until the late afternoon when i decided to take the boys for a run the other day. this is not normal, folks. i will get our lives back in order. one day. soon.

{dessert for dinner} ok, so i didn't have dessert for dinner, but it's tempting. my parents left me last week with an almost complete batch of magic bars, a few containers of ice cream, a jar of nutella, and chips ahoy cookies in the cabinet! holy moly! while i am proud to say that i haven't eaten all of this junk food, i admit that my motto when it comes to junk food is often, "if i eat it all, then it's gone and i can't be tempted to eat it any more!". this time, i applied the motto to the magic bars and have tried to keep things under control otherwise. like i said, it's vacation mode around here.

{precious moments} we have had some hard days around here; well, hard moments. and we've had some sweet moments too. sometimes i feel like a monster has found its way into my house and disguised itself as my sweet two-year-old (or maybe disguised itself as my children's mommy!); sometimes i just cry when my two-year-old does and says the sweetest things because i know this is his heart and the rest is just stuff we're working through. i hope he feels the same about me. some days (more often than not, lately) i feel like an absolute failure. i am learning that these are the good days, because those are the moments when i am utterly dependent on Christ to fill me, love through me, give me patience, and help me be the mommy my kids need me to be.

"...'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness'. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
2 Corinthians 12:9
