first book of the new year
i just finished reading my first book of 2012.
i admit, i have never even considered writing down the books i read in a year, keeping a count or a list of them. it makes sense, just never occurred to me. with the turn of a new year, i enjoyed reading on others' blogs about the books they have read over the past year and i am now encouraged to keep my own tally.
so, here's number one of My Books Read in 2012:
i love, love, love Lynn Austin's books. there is something about the way she writes that draws me into the story, encourages my faith, and makes me wish there wasn't a last page to each book. Wonderland Creek is no exception. i was pleasantly surprised to learn that Lynn Austin had a new book, published last year, and i didn't know about it! i have been "saving" my reading of this book for the evenings, once my one-year-old is in bed and my husband and i read for a bit before going to sleep. Wonderland Creek is about a young girl from Illinois who lives her life with her nose stuck in a book. she works at a library, lives a sheltered and uneventful life as a preacher's daughter during the Great Depression. as her circumstances change, she finds herself making a short visit to Kentucky to deliver some donated books and before she knows it, her life becomes a real-life story filled with suspense, faith, adventure, love, and challenge. i will leave the synopsis at that, and encourage you to read it for yourself!
i am close to finishing my second book of the year, The Ministry of Motherhood, so more on that in the near future. and, of course, i have a few on deck to begin next. as always, i welcome any good book suggestions you may have!
