copycat
so, some friends and i were talking the other night about staple items in our kitchens. my friend, Laura, blogged about her top ten items, so i am doing the same. (check out Laura's blog: http://storybookreality.blogspot.com).
TOP TEN FOOD ITEMS:
1. peanut butter. i love it, my husband loves it. it's the perfect food. thank you, George Washington Carver. i really like the JIF Natural PB, but the Publix Natural brand is pretty good too.

2. skim milk. with cereal, by itself, or with chocolate chip cookies. and really cold! mmm!
3. cereal. in college, i was a huge cereal junkie. not as much now, but it is still a staple. some of our favs are Honey Nut Cheerios, Low Fat Granola, Bran Flakes, Honey Bunches of Oats. i like to mix my cereal-- for example, a flake cereal with cheerios. or granola with flakes. lots of options for mixing.
4. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. good thing they're cheap, cause we eat them like we're monkeys. that's right, upside down, haha.
5. diet soda. if you've read my previous entries, you know i do enjoy my soda. it's the carbonation. and some foods just need a soda to wash it down. for example, my next staple item...
6. frozen pizza. pizza is my favorite food. i eat it almost weekly. and it's pretty inexpensive. my favorite is Freschetta Supreme Pizza.
7. soy milk. my husband drinks soy milk. i don't mind it, but it's not real milk to me. so, we have our separate milks. one of the few things we don't share. awww. :)
8. yogurt. for smoothies, parfaits, by itself. we finally found one that tastes good, but has less than 4 ingredients: Dannon Natural Yogurt (i like the vanilla flavor, but the plain is good too).
9. baby spinach. it's becoming a staple in the Thomasson household. good for salads, omelettes, and smoothies. yes, you read that correctly. blend some up in your favorite fruit smoothie and you get all the nutrients, but it doesn't affect the taste.
10. tortilla wraps. i buy the low carb, high fiber wheat wraps. we use them instead of bread for sandwiches sometimes, for mexican food of course, and for JMU wraps. JMU wraps are a new thing for me-- invented by my sis-in-law, Becky, who went to James Madison University (hence, the JMU). spread some PB on the wrap, cut up some bananas, and then sprinkle some cereal (preferably, granola), then warm for ~20 seconds, and viola! you have a yummy wholesome wrap. wash it down with a glass of milk and you have just incorporated 5 of my top 10 staple food items!
what are your gotta-have food items?
mmm...just made a JMU wrap this week. I'm glad to hear you are making them still too. The pot worked great for the soup by the way. Thanks.
