new day

I love fall. I know, I know, everybody loves fall. what's not to love? cold, crisp mornings. cozy warm clothes. snuggling up with a munchkin or two (or three). pumpkin-flavored anything.

like the start of a new school year, January rolling around as soon as the Christmas lights are taken down, new blooms in the spring. there is something inside of us that just needs that newness, doesn't it?

I've been thinking lately about how gracious it is of God to have created new days. and then he gave us a new week every seven days. new months fill our calendars. the seasons change and we have newness to enjoy and appreciate and behold.

"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. 'The Lord is my portion,' says my soul, 'therefore I will hope in Him'." Lamentations 3:22-24

God knew we I would need a new day. a day to start fresh and have His mercies poured out upon me. how beautiful that a "day" doesn't just go on and on and on forever (even if when it feels like it). that we have the assurance that the day will come to an end and we will have a new beginning tomorrow. as Lucy Maud Montgomery says, "isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?" (Anne of Green Gables).

but, best of all, he has made us new.

"And he who is seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.' " Revelation 21:5
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. the old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2 Corinthians 5:17

not just improved versions of ourselves, but brand-stinking-new. glory! Christ has saved us, once and for all, by His death on the cross! and He has delivered us from the power of sin. we can rely on Him day by day to deliver us from deep-rooted habits of sinful self-centeredness. praise Jesus!

praising the Lord for His salvation, for deliverance from the power of sin, and for a new day.

musings of a sleep-deprived, imperfect-but-being-made-perfect, just-keeping-it-real mom. :)
