miscellany monday
{} food network star. i'm addicted to this show. just like any reality tv series, i love the competition, learning about the people and cheering for my favorite, and i enjoy all the fun food creations they present. the ironic thing about loving this show is that i don't even have cable. it's almost worth paying what cable costs just so i can see this show "live", but the internet is a beautiful thing. i just wait a day or two and i can see it, no commercials!
{} Joshua. so, my husband and i are reading through the book of Joshua together. i have read this book numerous times before, i imagine, but i have really been struck this time. war, destruction, providence, warriors,...so many thoughts, it almost deserves its own blog post. hmm...don't go far, i'll work on that one and get back to you...
{} see you later, alligator! so, the nearby pond in our neighborhood has an alligator in it. my neighbors told me and it was disturbing. "it's only 3 feet long!", they said, but it's still disturbing. i saw him with my own two eyes yesterday and it was very disturbing. i decided the only way i like to see alligators is behind a fence at the zoo. sorry, no pictures. i didn't want to linger a second longer than absolutely necessary. creepy!
{} buckles. my 14-month-old is into buckles, bigtime. it's our new post-mealtime ritual to get out of the booster seat, he turns around, and immediately begins unbuckling. unbuckle, buckle, repeat. unbuckle, cry because he is frustrated, keep going, unbuckle, buckle, repeat. i love how his growing mind is trying to figure everything out!

{} those sweet words. speaking of the little cutie (how can i not?), he has truly figured out the word "mama". it's the most frequently used word these days (besides uh-oh). he will say it over and over, i will look at him and reply, "yes, ethan?", he gives me a huge grin and starts laughing. as ethan would also say, uh-oh.
{} countdowns. there is always something to countdown to, especially as a military family, it seems. at first countdowns can seem depressing-- i still have that many days until...-- but, then, all of a sudden, the day sneaks up on you and finally arrives! we have several countdowns going right now, but here's a favorite...
{} dear baby. before we were even pregnant with ethan, i thought it would be a really sweet gift to journal to our children, as i carried them and continue after their birth through their childhood. i then can give them the journal when they are older and they can read my thoughts, prayers, frustrations, memories, lessons learned, etc. specifically about them, as my child. thankfully, i have been able to keep this up with ethan (not weekly, mind you, but every so often) and just recently purchased the journal for baby Thomasson 2. i enjoyed catching up on entries of the day we found out we were pregnant, how we told our family and friends, the first time we saw their precious life on ultrasound. i hope they will enjoy it one day, but for now, i love taking the time to think and pray specifically for each of our babies and let these words flow as i write to them.
